Have you decided on your goals for the New Year yet? Do you need an idea for your New Year Resolution?

Perhaps learning First Aid is something that you’ve been meaning to do for some time but not sure where and how?

There are lots of ways of learning First Aid from free online information to free courses to full First at Work or First Aid for Activity courses depending on your need and learning First Aid is a fantastic New Years resolutions idea.

Want to learn online?

I’m a huge fan of the Lifesaver app, it’s an interactive film that requires you to join in and make the decisions on what to do next.  It’s a great tool even if you’ve had First Aid training in the past as it can help update those critical skills.  Because it’s interactive it’s far more effective than plain video.  It was partly funded by the Resuscitation Council (UK) so you can be sure it meets all current guidelines and the scenarios are set in public places.  It really is a great tool.

Want to learn face to face but only need the basics?

Nothing really beats hands on practice when learning First Aid and learning the basics doesn’t have to be expensive.  The British Heart Foundation have trainers that organise Heart Start classes which are free 2 hour classes where they cover the essentials such as CPR, choking and the recovery position.

I will also offer something similar for any not-for-profit organisation.  If you have a group of up to 12 and a room big enough I’ll come along for 2 hours and teach you CPR how to use and automated defibrillator (AED), what to do if someone is choking and how to put someone in the recovery position.  There’s no charge for these sessions but I do ask for a donation to cover my costs.  As there’s no charge I limit availability to 2 sessions a month and within 45 minutes travel from Buxton, Derbyshire.

Want to learn face to face but want a bit more depth?

If you need First Aid training for work I’d recommend using a calculator to assess your risk and decide on what level of training you need.  The calculator here will send you a report, instantly, with all those details.  It also sends a copy to me so if you need to discuss it you’re welcome to contact me.

I have First Aid at Work and Emergency First Aid at Work courses available in January and February 2015.  If you are a larger organisation and would prefer on-site courses this can be provided, please contact me for details.

Would you like more information?

Please contact me if you would like any more detail about what training you might like or to discuss what you might need.  I look forward to hearing from you in 2015.

Kind regards, Helen.
