I love Fireworks. In order to be able to fully enjoy your event it’s important to be prepared though and to know what to do if you or someone else does get burnt and to know some basic first aid for burns and scalds.

– Check costumes aren’t likely to be tripped on

Last week I wrote about ‘Restart a Heart Day – Loved ones save Lives’. I quoted the Resuscitation Council who says that of the 60,000 cardiac arrests a year the majority are suffered at home with 50% being witnessed by loved ones and some of these are witnessed by children.

On Thursday this week is the European Restart a Heart day. The focus this year is on ‘Loved ones save lives’. CPR before the ambulance arrives doubles chances of survival therefore it is vital that bystanders know what to do in an emergency.

During the autumn there are lots of hazards that aren’t usually around. I love to walk in the park and kick the leaves or bring some home to make pictures (sadly my children are getting too old for this) but they can be dangerous too.

First Aid for Heart Attacks
What is a heart attack?
It’s often confused with a cardiac arrest but a cardiac arrest is when someone’s heart stops beating and no longer pumps the blood around the body. When this happens they need you to act promptly to get help and begin CPR (cardio-pulmonary resuscitation).
