First Aid for Christmas
Last year I gave some general first aid tips for Christmas, which you can read here. This year I decided to write about getting help over the Christmas holiday.
999 receives lots of inappropriate phone calls every year, some of which can even be about cooking the turkey! The British Turkey Federation have provided a free help line on 0800 783 9994 for all your turkey questions, lines will be open 9-5 on weekdays, including Christmas Eve. They also held a TwitterChat on 15th December at #TalkingTurkey. If you missed it if you search #TalkingTurkey on Twitter you’ll be able to find all the conversations.
Help if you’re ill
If you need urgent help but not 999, remember you can also call 111. Many Minor Injuries units and Walk-In Centres will be open, the details for the Derbyshire services can be found here, if you search online you’ll be able to find your local service too. Generally if you ring your GP or Dentist on their normal number there will be advice on the answering machine of who to call.
Even though you may think it’s better to use A&E because they’re open, it really is best to try and access the service you need. Of course if you need emergency help please call 999.
Learn CPR
In my next blog I’ll be writing about learning CPR and the Recovery position but you can get ahead and have a go with the Lifesaver where you can learn CPR, how to manage someone choking and how to put someone in the recovery position. These are simple life skills but make a huge difference to someone’s chances of surviving. Have a go or organise a ‘Save a Life Party‘ it really doesn’t take long to learn the basics.
