Please support The Thomas Theyer Foundation
This week I’ve chosen to write a slightly different blog. I’m asking you instead to support the Thomas Theyer Foundation.
Thomas Theyer was 18 years old in June 2013; he tragically died just over a month later. Thomas lived in Chapel-en-le-Frith, he went to school with my nephew and ran in the same club as my daughters, who were in the same year as Thomas’ sister. Thomas and my daughter, Danielle, both ran in the Buxton carnival race in 2013. It was only 6 days later that Thomas died.
Thomas’ mum, dad and sister have started The Thomas Theyer Foundation with the aim of raising £500k to build two lodges in the Peak District. The lodges will be available for schools or families to access in order to enjoy the physical activities on offer. Thomas loved to be active and to keep physically fit, he ran most days and this helped with his Dyspraxia and ADD. It is the aim of The Foundation to use these lodges to support families with similar needs or experiencing difficulties.
There’s lots of fundraising activities being undertaken to support them. There’s been cake, jam, sponsored walks and at this year’s carnival race we are encouraging people to ‘Run for Thomas’.
You can purchase yellow technical running t-shirts for £10 or if you raise over £30 in sponsorship you can have one for free! They are really great t-shirts. One of my fellow runners, Debbie Rushworth, will be doing the carnival race on Saturday 11th July and is collecting sponsorship, please contact me if you would like to support her.
Since June 2015 The Foundation has been a registered charity so soon they will have a Just Giving page. In the meantime please contact them direct if you wish donate or help fundraise, however big or small.
Please also help them with support by sharing their profile on social media either Facebook or Twitter.
Thank you and I’ll maybe see you on Carnival Day. I’m marshaling at the end of the race so you’ll find me there giving out water and mementos and to see Debbie finish.
