16th October Restart a heart day – Loved ones save lives
On Thursday this week is the European Restart a Heart day. The focus this year is on ‘Loved ones save lives’.
The Resuscitation Council (UK) are supporting this event and they have said:-
“60,000 people suffer cardiac arrests in the UK every year and the majority of them do so at home with over 50% witnessed by loved ones (including children). Bystander CPR is low – only 1 in 3 have any CPR before an ambulance arrives and on average less than 12% survive. CPR before the ambulance arrives doubles chances of survival therefore it is vital that bystanders know what to do in an emergency.”
I teach lots of health professionals who are required to learn CPR as part of their role but I always encourage them to share their knowledge with their loved ones. You can also access the Lifesaver app which is a great interactive game to learn the principles of CPR.
There’s nothing quite like having some hands on training though. I offer sessions on a not for profit basis for friends and families, youth groups, sport clubs or any not for profit organisation. I offer these sessions in Derbyshire but can sometimes stretch into East Cheshire, Staffordshire, South Yorkshire as I’m in the north of the county.
Please contact me if you’d like more information on how you can access CPR training. Also if you’re running any events please add a comment and a link below.
